Um estudo de caso sobre a violência escolar em uma instituição pública estadual do interior de Minas Gerais

Abstract

This dissertation is developed within the scope of the Professional Master in Management and Evaluation of Education of the Center for Public Policy and Evaluation of Education of the Federal University of Juiz de Fora (CAEd/ UFJF). The management case studied presents an analysis of the school climate of a school institution in Minas Gerais in which violence rates are worrying, especially after the increase in school attendance, since the institution, which only received students from the early years of elementary school, started to attend, from 2017, the students of the final years of elementary school. In this sense, we chose for this study the following guiding questions: what factors would be promoting the rise of school violence at Paulo Freire State School and why the measures to contain violence did not have effect? The general objective defined for this study is to describe the context of Paulo Freire State School, focusing on the quantity of records of violent acts that occurred in the institution to understand how this fact occurs in the school environment and to propose new actions to combat the problem analyzed. In line with the proposed general objective, the following specific objectives were established for this dissertation: i) describe the problem of the management case, more specifically the deterioration of the school climate and the school violence rates recorded in Brazil, Minas Gerais and, mainly at Paulo Freire State School; ii) analyze the factors that contributed to the increase of school violence; and iii) propose actions that contribute to the improvement of the school climate and to the fight against violence within the educational institution. For this, we will use, as theoretical reference, the studies by Abramovay and Rua (2002), Stelko-Pereira and Williams (2010), Fenández (2005), Moro et al (2017) and others that contribute to the understanding of school climate and school violence. As a methodology, this study uses the qualitative approach to be performed from a case study, and as instruments was performed a document analysis and questionnaires were applied to the students of the researched educational institution and interviews with teachers. Considering the data presented, it can be inferred that school violence must be combated through all possible possibilities and partnerships, as an alternative solution to this phenomenon of school violence, are school mediation, the creation of a student union to give voice to students and a life perspective project, which will value the student individually.
