Recordar para legitimar: a memória apaziguada na linha do tempo do site “Memória Globo”

Abstract

Studies related to memory are being increasingly valued in the digital age. The excess of information and the development of digital technologies are contributing to many initiatives aimed at rescuing practices turned to the past. This can be seen in the political, cultural, social and media sectors. Therefore, in the face of a world of uncertainty, marked by the speed of information and the acceleration of time, it is essential to investigate how memory has been established in this era, especially the use that has been made of it by the media. For this research, we opted to analyze the timeline, related to the news coverage, of the memory site of the largest communication company in Brazil, “Memória Globo”. The goal is to verify which news was highlighted and gained the status of “memorable” through the lens of Rede Globo. After all, how is the historical past being built and presented by the company? What facts are being overlooked? What are the predominant issues? For the analysis, we chose to use Laurence Bardin's Content Analysis methodology (2011). From it, it was possible to categorize the most recalled years, as well as to divide the subjects by themes in order to verify which were the most worked news values. In total, 166 facts were listed, among which it was found that 102 made reference to matters related to the category "death". The other facts were related to health, innovation, entertainment, sport, politics and religion. It should be noted that, at the end of 2019, the “Memória Globo” website underwent a change and had its entire layout modified, making navigation easier. The analyzed timeline has even ceased to exist. What brought a reflection about this contemporary memory that is being built and distributed in the online environment; since at the same time that it is accessible, it is fragile and fluid.
