O que a lama não apaga: desastre, memória e sociabilidade em Mariana - MG

Abstract

The present research inserts itself in the debate about the environmental crime that happened in Mariana/MG caused by a rupture in Fundão tailings dam, owned by Vale/Samarco/BHP. Such rupture put in motion a series of ruptures in the productive, cultural, economic and social processes of innumerous impacted communities, triggering a crisis situation to the affected people. Possessing as object of study the question about the collective resettlement of Bento Rodrigues community, we will seek to understand the constant longing expressed by the residents in recover, to the maximum, the existent characteristics in the former subdistrict to the new material surroundings. With the usage of qualitative methodology, we proceed to the bibliographic survey, documentary research, field research and conducting semi-structured interviews. The study verified that the spatial recomposition of the former subdistrict reference elements in the resettlement project is emblematic not only of the past, but also of the social relationships that through space are established and which gives them shape and life inside the urban structure, demonstrating the weight and value of social relationships to the community beyond a merely specular image of a romanticized and idealized past to be reincarnated in the resettlement.
