Matemática e tecnologia no esporte orientação

Abstract

This dissertation aims to motivate students to learning mathematics by way of sports. We chose the Orienteering, a sport that uses Nature as its playing field. Given that smartphones and the so-called weareables become cheaper every day and are present in everyday life, we focus on GPS apps and GOOGLE EARTH for various Orienteering activities, using especially the resources available online by INPE. Applying the Hybrid Teaching method, we propose to use, in partnership with the Physical Education teachers, sports practices as a complementary tool for teaching/learning in mathematics. The aim is to provoke interest in students in the pursuit of scientific knowledge, breaking with the old prejudice that “mathematics is only for mathematicians”. This work intends to serve as a reference material for teachers, at various levels of content, from the beginning of elementary school to the end of high school. Ssome topics may be of interest to students in the final two years who wish to choose exact or technological areas. We have included three more advanced chapters, one one cartography and complex variables, another on GPS and last, but not the least, a chapter on logistic problems motivated by the Orienteering sport.
