Grande sertão: veredas como busca do autoconhecimento: uma leitura junguiana

Abstract

This thesis aims to establish an interdisciplinary dialogue between the literature of João Guimarães Rosa and Carl Gustav Jung's psychology. The objective of the investigation is to analyse the work of Grande sertão: veredas with a Jungian look, as if the narrater-character, Riobaldo, who speaks continuously, was in a "divan" with a supposed analyst, the doctor who listens patiently to him during the narrative about his troublous life of jagunço between loves and wars as he in the old age, there are many questions that torment him. Riobaldo's speech is be investigated as a search for self-knowledge and is be considered as a therapeutic process under way and the doctor who listens to him as a fundamental mediator in this process. The conceptual system of Jungian psychology is ample, however, we use it in this analysis mainly the concepts involved in the process of individuation: Persona/Mask, shadow, anima, animus, and self, as well as others that we use throughout the thesis as complementary contributions.
