A crise na modernidade na poesia de Hilda Hilst e Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen

Abstract

This work aims at proposing a comparative analysis between the poetics of Hilda Hilst and Sophia de Mello Breyner in order to investigate how they inherit and (re)formulate elements from literary traditions showing the crisis in modernity. In this investigation the starting point was the analysis of modernity features and its paradoxes. Besides it is observed that crisis expresses itself not only as an element triggering changes in this period but also as something entailing disappointment and disruption of an age towards subject’s internal and external world. Considering the context of modernity, historical and cultural specificities of Portuguese-speaking spaces from which emerge both the authors’ poetic production and their writing pathways, some themes and aesthetic accomplishments related to the crisis in modernity were analysed in poetry, searching for convergences and divergences between the poets. Therefore, it is investigated how the verses by Hilda Hilst and Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen reveal the crisis in modernity regarding man’s relationship to space, time, subject’s internal world linked to an existential crisis and man’s relationship to sacred, encompassing aspects approaching the social function of poetry and poet as well. The theoretical framework of the research involves assumptions in the fields of poetry, literary criticism, modernity and history.
