A “Santiago de Compostela” brasileira: religião, turismo e consumo na peregrinação pelo caminho da fé

Abstract

The objective of this thesis is to analyze the phenomenon of the peregrination in the modern and contemporary society and its interfaces with the religious tourism. The Way of the Faith (a route for peregrination officially inaugurated in February 12 of 2003) and the people who cover it as well served as the ethnographic field of the research. The itinerary begins in Tambaú (SP), city where the Priest Donizetti Tavares de Lima lived, and crosses some cities of the interior of São Paulo and the south of Minas Gerais, with the goal to arrive at Aparecida (SP), place of the biggest Brazilian catholic sanctuary. In a total of 415 kilometers, the route can be considered the newest and biggest permanent track of Brazil. This study will focus on an interpretation of the Way of Faith peregrination phenomenon from the theoretical perspective adopted by Eade and Sallnow (1991), who had established a new boarding for the studies of the peregrination, which is to analyze the diversity of speeches and points of view present in the peregrination. My look will be primarily directed to the diversity of historical, cultural, religious, politicians and economical contexts that are brought up to date in the diverse constituent dimensions of the object of study.
