Abstract

Introduction: The failure of breastfeeding can be caused by technical, emotional, social, and cultural factors. The nursing diagnosis "Ineffective Breastfeeding (00104)" can assist the nurse in identifying this phenomenon. Objective: To determine the components of the diagnosis "Ineffective Breastfeeding (00104)" from NANDA-I in the literature. Method: This was a scoping review based on the JBI guidelines and PRISMA, including qualitative and quantitative studies published between 2021 and 2023. The databases used were PubMed, CINAHL, BVS/BIREME, Web of Science, and SCOPUS. Results: Seventeen studies were included in the review. Only two defining characteristics related to the infant were not identified: "Archeing when on the breast" and "Absence of response to other comfort measures," as well as the related factor "Maternal breast anomaly." Conclusion: The studied diagnosis is essential for the early identification of problems and the implementation of targeted interventions for both the baby's and the mother's well-being.
