A violência letal no Município de Juiz de Fora: uma análise socio-descritiva dos homicídios ocorridos entre os anos de 1999 a 2020

Abstract

This master's dissertation is focused on studies about homicide crimes. The main objective of this research was to analyze the data on homicide deaths in the city of Juiz de Fora, from 1999 to 2020, according to the variables of age, race, sex and education of the victims. The research was developed through the methodology of descriptive analysis of the data of homicide deaths released in the Mortality Information System (SIM) and the Department of Informatics of the Unified Health System (DATASUS) classified in ICD-10 in the category of deaths from intentional aggression. In the theoretical field of the same research was developed a brief historical analysis of the evolution of the crime of homicide, added to the study of sociological theories related to the theme of homicides, in order to achieve answers about the probable causes of the progressive growth of occurrences of these crimes over the past decades in the city. In this way, we can verify whether the municipality of Juiz de Fora has also been suffering from the phenomenon of the "internalization of violence", and point out the challenges and management methods of municipal governments within the limited scope of their constitutional competence to act in the field of public security. Finally, this dissertation, through a sociological perspective, conducts a sociodescriptive analysis of the data from the variables surveyed, seeking to identify the social profile of the victims most affected by homicides in the municipality in the increases in the occurrences of these deaths over the 21 years studied.
