A flexibilização das relações de trabalho no Brasil pela ótica da Folha de S. Paulo

Abstract

In order to contribute to the debate about the role played by the press in disseminating neoliberal discourse in Brazil, this research aims to investigate how Folha de S. Paulo presented and discussed the topic of labor relations flexibilization between 1995 and 1998. This period corresponds to the first government of Fernando Henrique Cardoso and is marked by the strengthening of the discussion on the modernization of labor relations in the country. To achieve this objective, a qualitative analysis of the editorials will be conducted, seeking to understand Folha’s perspective on the Brazilian labor relations system and the changes suggested by the newspaper in this regard. Additionally, the newspaper’s stance on the flexibilizing measures discussed within the defined time frame will be examined. Ultimately, the research seeks to determine whether Folha de S. Paulo maintained the pro-employer conservative position expressed during the constitutional debate, incorporating the deregulatory discourse advocated by business entities regarding labor costs in Brazil. It will also be examined whether the newspaper played a political role in simplifying the discussion about the Capital/ Labor relationship, contributing to the legitimization of labor precarization in the country.
