Abstract

This work addresses the relationship between young people and the city, focusing on understanding the spatialities established by young residents of a small town in the ir understand how living in a small town conditions young p search for leisure. We seek to eople's experiences and their leisure srelated spatialities, identifying the way they organize themselves to fabricate their own leisure, by creating new types of ociabilities and new territorialities, which drive new spatialities for these subjects in the urban space. We started our analysis process through a deep bibliographic dive into the central categories of the research, pointing out the main epistemological approaches that deal with the concepts of youth and leisure. We present the main conceptualiz ations of youth, emphasizing sociological approaches, and the evolution of the concept, which culminated in the recognition of its plurality and the identification of different factors that condition the youth experience, with emphasis on sociospatial fac tors and its ramifications. We also present the different conceptions of leisure throughout history, highlighting its importance for the full social development of young people, and the different sociospatial dynamics contained in leisure and sociabilitie s, which contribute to the making of an inclusive urban space, one capable of producing citizenship and dignity for the young population. The methodological process took place through bibliographic review, documentary research, field research, and a survey through structured and semicarried out structured interviews. From that, we identified the main spaces of leisure spatial processes that and sociability experienced by the youth in the city of Matias Barbosa (Minas Gerais, Brazil), emphasizing the socio influence the youth experiences in the city.
