Gênero e trabalho: a maternidade e os desafios enfrentados por mulheres que trabalham no setor privado de Governador Valadares.

Abstract

This paper discusses gender relations, and aims to understand how the motherhood impacts the lives of women who work in the private sector of Governador Valadares. From the social construction of motherhood, the patterns and stigmas in which it is involved, in addition to the inequalities and challenges faced by women who are mothers in society, it was necessary to understand how all this influences their professional scope, based on their perspectives about the subject. To obtain this information, interviews were conducted with women who work in different areas of the private sector in the city Governador Valadares. In general, it was observed that the professional context of these women can be conceived as a reflection of the social spectrum in question, since it was found, from the reports of these mothers, actions and situations that configure inequalities and challenges segmented by gender, even that in a subtle way. The predefined patterns and roles of motherhood are significantly perceived in the home environments of each of the participants, directly interfering with their professional activity. Finally, the study contributes to the understanding of society, the labor market, and the people who are inserted in these contexts, enabling the discussion of a very important topic for all areas, but which still suffers the consequences of outdated values and habits.
