Abstract

“What is man?” This is the aporia that marked the anthropological investigations, from the first treatises in classical Greece to the present time. In order to shed some light on this problem, reflections and deepening on the human being will be promoted, considering him primarily as a unity and a totality. Paradoxically, however, man will be considered as an essence, but also an existence. Thus, essentially and in his existence, the task of thinking what man is will be fixed in his personality, meaning that he is a unity emanated from a structure and relativity, or, in other words, from what he is in relationship with. By joining the structure and the relationship, the result will be the achievement and, lastly, the person. The person represents, then, the ability to deal with the immediate structural presence and also with his relational potentiality, based on his objectivity, intersubjectivity and transcendence. Through this transcendence the existential need of the subject will emerge, and the subject, in his subjectivity, will be able to go beyond and transcend, above all, by being in relationship with himself and with the other. In this relation, man will show himself as a for-being, referring to the ability that comes from being able to reveal to himself and to others, showing himself as the one who, in his becoming, changes into what he is, depending mainly on his own abilities. These abilities are essentially linked to intelligibility and the ability to express himself, and, through the speech, mechanism of expression, he communicates, becoming a dynamic process of donation, objectivity and limitation to expression, the essence and the unlimitedness. In the passage, he is the mediation that manifests, consolidating the great and dialectical synthesis, through which his essence and the his existence will be fixed in his being. And it is in the being and in the existence that the subject man transcends, affirming what he is. In being and existing, man realizes himself, and in his accomplishment, in the act of existing there is the person, and this person, in his becoming, is being-for.
