A determinação social da saúde: problematizações teóricas e a realidade brasileira

Abstract

This dissertation aims to theoretically debate the concepto of social determination of the health/disease process, differentiating this perspective from the notion of social determinants of health. In this analysis, it is essential to consider the socio-historical formation, that is, the insertion in the capitalist mode of production. Our hypothesis is that the debate on the social determination of health has been treated as synonymouns with social determinants, and this implies both theoretical issues and practical developments in social reality. The methodology used was supported by a qualilative approach and dialectical historical materialism, in order to understand reality in its movements of contradictions and conflicts, therefore, from the perspective of totality. In order to undersant the object of study, a bibliographic research was carried out, which consists of: carrying out a survey or review of published works on the social determination of health. In addition, we carried out reflections placing health historically, as well as mediating with the current health crisis brought about by Covid-19 pandemic. It is concluded that it is increasingly necessary for research to seek the foundation of the processes taking place in Society, in which the sharpening of the expressions of the “social question” is increasingly perceived, especially in a country as unequal as Brazil.
