Os deuses do Outro. Antropologia e Ciência da Religião: uma revisita à obra de Carlos Rodrigues Brandão

Abstract

This thesis aims to revisit the work of Professor Carlos Rodrigues Brandão, seeking to highlight the nature of his theoretical-methodological contributions regarding studies on culture and religion. Therefore, it seeks to investigate his biography, his intellectual path, his engagement in the Catholic left social movements, his scholar career, and, at the same time, to accentuate the main themes of his research and its methodologies, articulating them with the works of other authors of his generation, as well as to some of the classics of Anthropology. Finally, empirical field experiences are presented - on popular celebrations of the Catholic saints - carried out under his guidance by the author, who proposes an interdisciplinary dialogue between Anthropology and Religious Studies concerning the approach and analytical treatment of the religious phenomenon, discussing in special the participant observation method applied to both of these fields.
