Radicalização da direita no Brasil nos anos de 2010: uma análise da bancada mineira na Câmara dos Deputados

Abstract

The 2010s have brought profound transformations in the global political landscape. In Europe the serious effects of the 2008 global economic crisis and the humanitarian crisis of refugees coincided with the strengthening of extreme discourses around xenophobic and nationalistic ideals. Amidst this atmosphere, it was observed that these ideals were successful in the political sphere, which went beyond the European continent and spread to several countries, gaining expression in the electoral disputes for the radicalization of the ideological field of the right and for the imposition of moral conducts, guided by the conservative ideology that was reproduced, including, in Brazil. This dissertation aims to contribute to the understanding of how this radicalization was established in Brazil. To this end, we will emphasize one of the spheres where extremism has manifested itself, the House of Representatives, more specifically, from the analysis of legislative production, profile, and behavior in roll-call votes of the parliamentarians of the Minas Gerais caucus between 2011 and 2018. Exploring these three dimensions we hope to understand in which ways this parliamentary elite acted to strengthen right-wing radicalism both in the political and social spheres and how the deputies of the state of Minas Gerais contributed to the evolution of this process.
