Abstract

The objective of this work was to analyze the problem of age / year distortion in the final years of Elementary School in a school in Sardoá in the state of Minas Gerais, which we named School a X. The issue of age / year distortion, which gained strength from the decade of 1980, continues to the present day, has negative effects for education, for the student and for the country, consubstantiating as a challenge to be overcome. In order to understand the problem, some discussions were made, based on different studies that allowed to understand the phenomenon and analyze its process. We analyzed the local context, the actors involved, the pedagogical proposal practiced by the school and the indicators of School X, collected in SIMADE, on the results of internal evaluations, and the Lemann and Meritt Foundation, regarding the results of external evaluations. After the analysis, we perceive problems of yield and flow, making clear the direct relation of age / year distortion with the culture of repetition present in school X. The high failure rate has generated a large contingent of students with age / year distortion, demanding classes of flow correction. Although, to avoid reproach, students have guaranteed rights for both reinforcement actions and new opportunities and learning time, as well as for the possibility of accelerating studies, the methodologies adopted by School X have not been effective in minimizing this problem. . Thus, in order to improve the income and flow indicators of School X and, consequently, to reduce age / year distortion rates, we propose an intervention based on an educational action plan. The said plan proposes a set of actions that, together, can contribute with the pedagogical proposal of the school in the fight against the reprobation and, consequently, of the age / year distortion. As the problems analyzed coincide with those of most public schools in the country, the present study may contribute to reduce the age / year distortion index of other schools that share this problem.
