| Resumo: | O processo de urbanização e crescimento demográfico que a maioria das cidades brasileiras vem enfrentando, desorganizadamente, acaba por gerar consequências muito negativas aos seus habitantes. A falta de um modelo de planejamento que vise a ocupação da população em planícies de inundação, por exemplo, faz com que ela seja a maior vítima das inundações que são recorrentes na maioria das cidades. As inundações do Rio Sesmaria são antigas, porém, vem se intensificando ao longo dos anos devido ao forte crescimento urbano que Resende vem enfrentando a partir dos anos 1940. Para entender tais eventos, essa dissertação teve como objetivo principal analisar os condicionantes que contribuem direta e/ou indiretamente para a ocorrência ou intensificação das inundações do Rio Sesmaria. A elaboração dos mapas de uso e cobertura da terra permitiram mostrar as profundas transformações que a região vem passando nos últimos 30 anos. Tais avaliações foram de extrema importância para entender como a bacia vem respondendo às transformações econômicas regionais e como tudo isso tem interferido na relação entre sociedade e inundações. |
| Abstract: | The process of urbanization and demographic development which most Brazilian cities are facing, disorganized, ends up generating very negative consequences for its inhabitants. The lack of a planning model aimed at occupying the population in flood plains for example, makes it the biggest victim of flooding that is recurrent in most cities. The floods of the Sesmaria River are old, however, has been intensifying over the years due to the strong urban growth that Resende has been facing since the 1940s. To understand such events, this dissertation had as main objective is to analyze the factors that contribute directly and / or indirectly to the occurrence or flooding of the Sesmaria River. The elaboration of land use and land cover maps showed the profound transformations that the region has been experiencing over the past 30 years. Such assessments were of extreme importance to understand how the basin has been responding to regional economic transformations and how all this has interfered in the relationship between society and floods. |
