Abstract: Lithium batteries dominate the market for energy storage systems. But, alternative technologies are looking for new materials that are earth-abundant, inexpensive and non- dangerous to users and the environment. Of all materials possessing the characteristics, they are interested in organic materials which can be easily synthesized and which are commercially promising. In this context, our proposal is the use of Reduced Graphene Oxide (rGO) and Ionic Liquids (LI's) in the development of new organic batteries. Moreover, one option to replace the Li/ Li + redox is the Al / Al3 + pair, that is, an aluminum ion battery. The aluminum, besides offering the advantages already mentioned above, can exchange three redox electrons by cation. That is, an insertion of an Al3+ is equivalent to three Li+ ions in conventional intercalation cathodes. The rGO has been promising as a cathode, and because of its structure, Al3+ ions can be interleaved/deinterleaved along their sheets during the discharge/charge processes. LI's have been showing a growing list of benefits like electrolytes in rechargeable batteries. Thus, we arrived at the proposal of this dissertation as being the development and characterization of new batteries of Al3+ Ions containing graphene oxide aerogel as cathode the PHPTBR Ionic Liquid as electrolyte. We show that devices with this architecture already exhibit good reversibility, useful life of about 100 cycles with a current capacity of the order 2uAh /g. The devices support charge and discharge currents in the order of 140uAh/g and operating voltage 0.5V-1.0V.
