Outros carnavais: folia e conflito no carnaval de Santa Rita do Sapucaí -MG (1932-1980)

Abstract

The main objective of this research is to analyze the multiple carnivals of the city of Santa Rita do Sapucaí, located in the south of the state of Minas Gerais, from 1932 to 1980. Field of multiple exchanges, tensions and conflicts between the different social movements groups that shared the party, the research observed the diverse forms of organization and participation from three carnival blocks: Mimosas Cravinas, Bloco dos Democráticos and Ride Palhaço. The block Mimosas Cravinas was frequented by the popular layers mostly blacks of the city, while the Ride Palhaço and Democráticos blocks were financed by the traditional families and local merchants. In analyzing their practices, we also dwell in the institutionalized spaces where carnival balls and other leisure activities and political activities took place: the José do Patrocínio Association and the Club Santarritense. The temporal mark of the research begins in 1932 when the first news of the Mimosas Cravinas block is found, runs through the construction of its headquarters in 1954 and ends in 1980, when the block leaves the pagan lines to give place to the Samba schools.
