Title: Um olhar antropológico sobre o patrimônio cultural: sentidos, significados e ressignificações do Museu Mariano Procópio (MMP)

Resumo: O Museu Mariano Procópio (MMP), formado a partir da prática de colecionamento de Alfredo Ferreira Lage e doado à Prefeitura Municipal de Juiz de Fora em 1936, é o objeto desse trabalho. O seu acervo é o segundo maior do Período Imperial, destacando-se por algumas obras históricas e artísticas importantes como o fardão usado por D. Pedro II na cerimônia da maioridade, em 1840; o quadro “Tirandentes Esquartejado”, de Pedro Américo; porcelanas das Companhias das Índias; parte do mobiliário da Família Imperial; além do acervo documental e da biblioteca de obras raras. Esse patrimônio foi freqüentado e visitado por pessoas com projeção no cenário nacional como D. Pedro II e sua família, políticos, intelectuais e até mesmo o Presidente Getúlio Vargas em visita à Juiz de Fora. Tornou-se um ícone da construção das identidades regional e nacional pelos símbolos e discursos dispostos através do seu arranjo. Dessa forma, essa dissertação objetiva identificar, através de uma perspectiva antropológica, as percepções de uma coletividade acerca da rede de sentidos e significados construída por meio do dialogo com o objeto material num determinado contexto e suas nuances, produzindo memórias e identidades individuais e coletivas. Busca-se compreender como é o processo de apropriação desse objeto pelos visitantes e funcionários. Apreende-se a produção do patrimônio cultural como “narrativas” ou como “formação discursiva” que possibilita mapear os conteúdos simbólicos, objetivando descrever a “formação da nação” e a constituir a identidade cultural. Analisa-se o Museu Mariano Procópio à luz da noção de “Fato Social Total” imbricado na dinâmica cultural, discutindo os mecanismos e a possível eficácia do patrimônio enquanto formador dessa identidade. Já que esse espaço não se apresenta como um produto natural ou físico, mas, sobretudo, como uma construção social, resultado sócio-histórico das disputas em torno da significação do território e suscetível a mudanças. Esse trabalho se baseia no museu como espaço simbólico de diferentes atores sociais, assim como a análise dos discursos produzidos sobre o patrimônio material, através da relação homem/objeto/contexto num determinado locus e sua disposição através de conflitos e tentativas de apropriação do patrimônio por diversos setores.
Abstract: The object of this work is Museu Mariano Procópio (MMP), formed by Alfredo Ferreira Lages’s practice of collecting and donated to Prefeitura Municipal de Juiz de Fora in 1936. Its collection is the second biggest of the Imperial Period, it distinguishes itself for important works such as the uniform that D. Pedro II wore in the Majority Ceremony in 1840; the picture ‘Tiradentes Esquartejado’, painted by Pedro Américo; porcelain from Companhia das Índias; part of the furniture of the Imperial Family; beyond the documental collection and the library of rare works. This patrimony was frequented and visited by important people as D. Pedro II and his family, politicians and intellectuals. It has become an icon in the construction of regional and national identities because of the symbols and speeches disposed through its arrangement. Thus, this dissertation aims at identifying, through an anthropological perspective, the perceptions of a collectivity about the net of feelings and meanings constructed through the dialog with the material object in a certain context and its nuances, producing individual and collective memories and identities. We look for comprehend the process of appropriation of that object by the visitors and employees. We apprehend the production of the cultural patrimony as ‘narratives’ or as ‘discursive formation’ that make possible to map the symbolic content, aiming at describing the nation formation and constituting the cultural identity. We analyze Museu Mariano Procópio in the light of the notion of the ‘Total Social Fact’ overlapped in the cultural dynamics, discussing the mechanisms and the effectiveness of the patrimony while former of that identity. Since this space doesn’t appear as a physical or natural product, but above all, as a social construction, a social historical result of disputes around the meaning of the territory and susceptible to changes. This work is based on the museum as a symbolic space of different social actors, as well as on the analysis of speeches produced about the material patrimony, through the relation man/object/context in a certain locus and its disposition through conflicts and attempts of appropriation of the patrimony by several sectors.
