O punitivismo neoliberal: da prisão as novas formas de controle

Abstract

In order to build knowledge about how public institutions work, it is necessary to understand how society, the economy, and politics are organized and how these institutions interact directly or indirectly with these spheres. At a time when neoliberalism is the dominant doctrine and not only guides, but also organizes the different spheres of life in society, institutions, and, in this specific case, public security institutions end up adapting to this new reality built on neoliberal dictates that will cause profound structural reforms and changes in the functioning of the entire apparatus designed to take care of public security, transforming everything from its organization and use of resources to the way it operates. This paper investigates the process of equipping public security institutions with the market logic implemented by neoliberalism and its impacts.
