O corpo-tela de mulheres afro-brasileiras: o discurso traje na autorrepresentação contemporânea, intersecções entre artes visuais e os modos de vestir

Abstract

This qualitative research is a case study that offers insights into the representation of Black women and their styles of dress from colonial Brazil to the present day, drawing on the works of three young visual artists of African descent and contrasting them with images of Black bodies from past centuries. The theoretical framework, grounded in a literature review, draws on the concept of the ‘body-canvas’ developed by Leda Maria Martins (2021), interweaving Visual Arts, Fashion and feminist studies. It aims to understand how the figure of Black women has been portrayed in the formation of the national visual culture and how Afro-Brazilian artists are challenging these images in their artistic practices and self-representations.
