Aspectos da tensão psíquica nas obras de Yves Saint Laurent e Alexander McQueen

Abstract

In the fashion industry, designers, since the creation of haute couture, have faced a high-pressure environment, imposing an arduous routine to meet the demands of the fashion seasons. Under constant pressure for new products and brand relevance, risks to physical and mental health are added, with mental disorders being frequent in the sector. This study seeks to analyze the psychic tension present in the works of Yves Saint Laurent and Alexander McQueen, internationally renowned designers, whose biographies and journalistic records point to diagnoses of depressive disorder, associated with drug use and a troubled life. Unlike the visual arts, where there is a vast collection relating to existing psychic tensions, such a connection in fashion is rarely explored. By investigating how Saint Laurent and McQueen created under their influence, this work aims to understand the relationship between psychic tension and creative expression in fashion, contributing to the interdisciplinary dialogue between fashion, psychology, and psychiatry, and broadening the understanding of how psychic conditions can influence complex creative processes without reducing them to a mere product of illness.
