Camp no contexto brasileiro: uma análise da sensibilidade estética de Elke Maravilha

Abstract

The study examines the concept of Camp as applied to Brazil through the figure of Elke Maravilha, exploring her representation in popular culture as an emblematic example of this aesthetic style. The research establishes a dialogue between the concepts of Camp and Kitsch, discussing their intersections and distinctions, using as a theoretical basis a bibliographic review of authors such as Susan Sontag, David M. Halperin, and Andrew Ross. As sources for the analysis of Elke Maravilha, the study draws on the magazine Manchete, the TV program Chacrinha, and the films in which she acted, as well as the biography Elke, Mulher Maravilha by Chico Felitti. It highlights how her exaggerated, ironic, and theatrical persona encapsulates elements of Camp but within a Brazilian cultural context. The research concludes that Elke Maravilha constructs her identity through her repertoire of what Brazil represents and, as a result, becomes Camp.
