Reabilitação estética e funcional em paciente com síndrome do envelhecimento precoce bucal: relato de caso clínico

Abstract

The Syndrome of Early Oral Aging (SEOA) is a multifactorial and complex clinical condition characterized by the premature aging of dental structures, which is incompatible with the patient’s chronological age. It is often associated with systemic diseases and lifestyle factors. Individuals with SEOA frequently present with mineral loss of hard dental tissues, leading to dentin hypersensitivity, non-carious cervical lesions (NCCLs), and both aesthetic and functional compromise. This study aimed to report a clinical case of a patient with SEOA, diagnosed with bruxism and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), through a detailed description of the diagnostic process, treatment planning, and clinical protocol adopted. The treatment included the reestablishment of vertical dimension of occlusion using table tops, aesthetic and functional rehabilitation of fractured and worn teeth, and the fabrication of an occlusal splint to maintain results and prevent further dental wear. The study also sought to review the literature on the management and prevention of SEOA, detailing the treatment protocol applied in the clinical case. In conclusion, the case highlighted the importance of a multidisciplinary approach in treating SEOA, especially when associated with aggravating factors such as bruxism and GERD. The aesthetic and functional rehabilitation using minimally invasive techniques proved to be effective, accessible, and long-lasting. The use of an occlusal splint, along with referrals to other professionals, contributed to the patient’s quality of life. Therefore, this study broadens the scientific knowledge on the clinical management of SEOA and offers support for early diagnosis and individualized treatment of such cases
