Literacia estatística e dados midiáticos: um estudo com estudantes do ensino fundamental durante a pandemia da COVID-19

Abstract

This research aims to investigate the development of Statistical Literacy in a class of five students from Project Carioca II through a sequence of activities that address the reading of COVID-19-related graphs presented by the media. The research adopts a qualitative approach and uses the assumptions of Didactic Engineering as the research methodology and methodological device in the classroom. The theoretical framework guiding this research is Statistical Literacy, and the hypothesis to be validated is whether a sequence of activities supported by Didactic Engineering, addressing language, statistical approaches, and decision-making, can lead students to develop and exercise aspects that comprise Statistical Literacy. After obtaining and analyzing the data, aspects contributing to the exercise of this literacy could be identified, as well as validating the presented hypothesis. The Educational Product proposed for this study consists of the elaboration of a Comic Book intended for students and teachers. The Comic Book objective is to present facts and graphs disseminated during the COVID-19 pandemic, with a focus on the relevance of Statistics amid a scenario of chaos and uncertainties, and it will also offer moments of activities and interaction with the reader.
