Clareamento em pacientes sob tratamento ortodôntico: uma revisão de literatura

Abstract

Currently, aesthetic treatments play a crucial role in the pursuit of standards considered ideal. Among these desired standards, the quest for a harmonious and white smile stands out. In this sense, it is worth highlighting the use of orthodontic appliances, which aim to ensure harmony and functionality to the smile, and the use of whitening gels responsible for dental bleaching. The dental whitening technique involves the use of products containing primarily hydrogen peroxide, which diffuses through dental structures, dissociates into free radicals that break down pigments in the teeth, thus promoting the whitening of the structure. In the orthodontic context, whitening can be challenging due to the presence of brackets. However, studies indicate that the adoption of whitening therapy concomitant with orthodontic treatment is effective and can be safely performed. When it comes to orthodontic treatment with transparent aligners, there is the possibility of using the aligner itself as a tray for home whitening treatment, providing not only aesthetic improvement but also a reduction in treatment time and cost. In this context, dental whitening is a viable option during orthodontic treatment, and it can be carried out safely and effectively. Articles were searched in periodicals in the Pubmed, Scielo and Lilacs databases, between the years 2013 and 2023.
