Abstract

This Thesis explores the evolution and importance of audiobooks in contemporary literary culture. Based on historical precedents, technological advancements, and cultural shifts, the research provides a comprehensive analysis of the role of audiobooks in shaping reading practices and literary consumption. Through an examination of key themes such as the artistic dimension of audiobooks, the preferences of the audio-reading audience, and the evolving roles of authors and narrators, the study highlights the transformative potential of audiobooks in expanding access to literature and enhancing the literary experience. By recognizing audiobooks as a distinct genre with its own artistic conventions and cultural significance, the research seeks to contribute to a deeper understanding of the dynamic relationship between technology, literature, and society in the digital age, as well as advocate for the existence and legitimacy of ear reading. Additionally, the analyses developed aim to underscore the authorial roles in literary production, with emphasis on the creative agents and creators of audio literature. Finally, the findings emphasize the lasting relevance of audiobooks as a literary form, drawing attention to the need for further investigations of the medium.
