Sobre a noção de linguagem subjacente ao ceticismo pirrônico sextiano: um estudo do livro I de Esboços Pirrônicos, de Sexto Empírico, acompanhado de tradução e de uma investigação teórico-metodológica

Abstract

In this work we aim to contribute to three different scopes: 1- one theoretical-methodological investigation, on the field of the History of Language Sciences; 2- another, historical and conceptual investigation, on a specific proposal of interpreting the functioning of language, under a Skeptical point of view which leads us to a kind of non-representationalism; 3- finally, offering a Greek/Portuguese translation of our primary source: the first book of Sextus Empiricus’ Outlines of Pyrrhonism. Nonetheless, the very quarrels which underlay the development of the theories which grounded our method – discussed in the first chapter – had some kind of Skepticism, mainly Modern or Contemporary, as point of departure. On the other hand, these Skepticisms are developed thanks to discussions which have Ancient Skeptical writers as chief primary sources, mainly Sextus Empiricus, whose work we aim to analyze. Thus, having in mind the not linear structure of the discussion, we also use a not linear way of approaching the problems, so the first chapter is fed and depends on the second one, which is fed and depends on the third.
