Geodiversidade do Parque Estadual da Serra Negra da Mantiqueira (MG): estratégias para a geoconservação

Abstract

Geodiversity is a new field of study in which the protagonists are the abiotic elements of the landscape. It is closely related to geological heritage and expands into the geosciences as a fundamental tool in landscape preservation. The present study aims to inventory and diagnose the Geodiversity of the State Park of Serra Negra da Mantiqueira, a recently implemented and understudied Conservation Unit in terms of abiotic elements. Methodologically, thematic mappings of the abiotic elements were conducted, and the variables were counted using the grid method, with IDW interpolation performed using ArcMap 10.3 software. Subsequently, a Geodiversity map was generated, estimating areas with a higher Geodiversity index and delineating geosites. Based on this diagnosis, action plans for the use, protection, and conservation of geological, natural, and cultural heritage were discussed, understanding their dynamics and values, as proposed by Gray (2004): intrinsic, cultural, functional, aesthetic, scientific, and educational values. Geosites within their boundaries were investigated, and then the concepts of Geotourism and Geoconservation in the area were discussed, emphasizing the importance of more effective preservation and generating reflections for future Park management actions.
