Entre lembranças, esquecimentos e silenciamentos: trajetória e legado de Itamar Franco

Abstract

This thesis aims to investigate and analyze the efforts to preserve the memory and legacy of the political persona Itamar Franco in the city of Juiz de Fora (MG), considering that it constitutes a privileged locus for this purpose. Thus, the research, of a qualitative nature, focuses on the main sites and instruments for the maintenance of the memory of this public man and of his “mineiridade”, these being, centrally, his authorized biography (YAZBECK, 2011), the Memorial of the Republic President Itamar Franco; the Itamar Franco Institute and the Itamar Franco Medal. Structured in six chapters, organized firom the aspects that stand out, the thesis, in addition to documentary analysis, has as its scope the framings of memory (POLLAK, 1992) and the movements of memory/forgetfulness (HUYSSEN, 2014) involved in this process. Finally, as it does not aim at a closed conclusion, the investigation has as its outcome the notes about how this mnemonic construction was Consolidated, on the one hand, and how it remains alive, in an incessant movement, on the other, in addition to pointing out open paths not only for those who want to dedicate themselves to the figure of Itamar, but also to future research that has such debate, and methodology, as a horizon.
