Um caleidoscópio de aprendizados: experiências americanas na Revista Illustrada

Abstract

The following work was a proprosal to re-analyze the representations of Americas, based on the point of view of nacionalitities, identity and interamericanness. It was tried to verify how it was represented through this linker of the ilustrated press of the Second Reign and beginning of the First Republic, the imaginary of the American nations and their political, social and cultural ideals; whether through texts, caricatures, characters or these together contained in the journal. This was done by reading all copies avaible in Hemeroteca Brasileira’ digital archive, in which, attention was paid to when keywords referring to America or his nations were cited. Analyzing these data, it could be unferstood that much of the Brazilian and American identity was represented over the years in the journal, as a mirror and by comparison with the other, even if indirectly. Either as opposites or as similar, just as the experience lived together made them Americans.
