Literatura infantil de autoria feminina em Juiz de Fora

Abstract

This study aims at presenting the children’s literature from Juiz de Fora, a town in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil, and the evolution of female authorship in this literary genre. Having that in mind, we have sought to understand the history of children’s literature, the paths taken during its development and the representation of feminine role in that production. To this aim, we organize the childhood literary track of Brazilian female authors who have taken part in the emancipation of feminine writing in this country. Following this, we introduce ten female writers from Juiz de Fora who produce literature for children and their main literary works, how they are released, which themes are the most frequent ones in that kind of writing and their importance to literature in general. Finally, we compare the literary works listed in this research by Brazilian female authors as well as female writers from Juiz de Fora. This investigation could establish the dimension of those women’s work in children’s literature, the deconstruction of traditional characteristics of old fairy tales that show feminine figure’s valorization instead of female repression and silencing. Furthermore, we verify that the concept of female subject is in need of reconsideration on a daily basis and children’s literature is a strong ally in this process of fighting for equality and respect among genders.
