Introspecção Criativa: leituras gráficas d`A hora da estrela, de Clarice Lispector

Abstract

This research is a study on the aesthetic and cognitive elements involved in the process of creating illustrations in digital painting, for the adaptation of a literary work. At first, I call this process ‘graphic reading’. To better understand the phenomenon, I created thirteen illustrations for the novel The hour of the star (1977), by the author Clarice Lispector. The thesis is based on the observation of the entire creation process that surrounds the production of illustrations, from reading the literary text, to the way of finalizing, describing and analyzing the images created. In this way, the research seeks to understand all the dynamics of operations involved in the transposition and transformation of a text, from verbal to non-verbal language. From the creation of the concept of ‘graphic reading’, I propose that the illustrations developed carry implicit elements from The hour of the star, which I observed and reproduced in figurative images. The images created intend to offer, in addition to an objective visual interpretation, the prospect of creating a new text on The hour of the star, this, in turn, purely visual. All actions taken during the introspective creation process were recorded in order to show the research methodology adopted. To guide the entire process of creating the images and the construction of this thesis, I researched several bibliographical references, related to the author Clarice Lispector and her literary works; biography, interviews, essays and critical texts, related to the work The hour of the star; articles, dissertations, theses, related to the context of the 1970s; historical, theoretical texts, and relating to the processes of creation and creativity. In addition to the readings for the research, numerous visual and cultural references were used in order to expand and assist the production of the graphic readings. Therefore, the text presented below is the result of theoretical and experimental research. I propose and aim that this thesis allows the opening of discussions for the interdisciplinary field between Literature and the Visual Arts.
