Conservadorismo e política: Carlos Lacerda em suas obras literárias (1964-1977)

Abstract

This dissertation aims to study the trajectory of the writer and politician Carlos Lacerda, in 1964 Civil-Military postcoup productions. Lacerda was a politician and writer, as well as a journalist, literary, translator, producer, editor and admirer of flowers and botany. He managed to have his name linked to several political movements, in addition to centralizing national attention, whether by the oratory and written, whether by the way he fought for what he believed. The present work is not simply about another historical narrative of the character; this dissertation was built from the literary works produced by this intellectual, and the works chosen were those published after 1964. The delimitation is due to the fact that the relevance of the period is not only national but personal: Lacerda, in 1964, believed that he would be elected to the presidency in 1965, and therefore participated in the Civil-Military coup. However, after the first decisions taken by President Castello Branco, as the elections postponing, Lacerda noticed that his political directions did not come out as planned. The 1965 productions were therefore written at a time when Lacerda was disappointed with politics and politicians. In this way, some relevant works by this character will be discussed, especially his last publication, A casa do meu avô, considered his last inspiration, since he died in the year of publication of the book (1977), an autobiography that helps us to defend the hypothesis that Lacerdista literature was being made on purpose to expose his conceptions about the current politics, even throughout censorship imposed by the military government. In short terms, we are interested in building the trajectory of Lacerda's political discourse after the military coup, using, however, the literary works of the character included here for study. For this, in addition to the authorship of Carlos Lacerda, the research records made in the Arquivo Carlos Lacerda – Biblioteca Central da UnB – Brasília/DF, will be analyzed, as periodicals (newspapers and magazines) of wide national circulation in the period, being highlight A Tribuna de Imprensa. But, as one of the objectives of this research is also to gather the knowledge already produced about Carlos Lacerda, it was made an academic bibliographic research, memoirist, about the character, and we looked to make a synthesis of this knowledge.
