Abstract: In this research, we focused on the poems and the manifestos by the poets Claudio Willer and Roberto Piva, both from São Paulo, Brazil, to investigate the setting of a vanguard movement carried out by them with other poets such as Antonio Fernando de Franceschi and Roberto Bicelli. Our goal with the research was to map the group settled in São Paulo, to understand its place in the background of contemporary Brazilian poetry, specifically that one produced between 1950 and 1980. For this purpose, we traced a path that goes through the Beat Generation, which influenced the poets ideas; Counterculture, the social movement emerged from the Beat movement; and the Brazilian poetry scene, started in the 1950s, which included, for example, Concretism, Tropicalism and Brazilian “Marginal Poetry” (or “Mimeograph Generation”). After the reading and analysis of the manifestos and poems, considering the whole production background, we defend the existence of a "subterranean vanguard", so called because the way it occurred, "hidden" in relation to the other movements of the period and for taking as reference the "poètes maudits" and a whole raving and non-rationalist lineage of poetry.
