Abstract: This study analyzes how the author Jorge Amado dealt with the issues of identity and alterity in his works. To this end, it was chosen as an object of study in order to relate the author, his literary trajectory and his involvement with the religion called Candomblé, in his novel Tenda dos milagres, written in 1969, during a highly repressive, persecuting and intimidating historical context of the dictatorship military. In this way, it was sought to understand through the narrative trajectory, the reason for its struggle against religious prejudice, above all, the prejudice against Candomblé, besides explaining the struggle of the Bahia people about the mixed national identity. To this end, this research used both his literary work and the homonymous TV series, to reflect about all kinds of prejudices addressed in the work and how the fight against religious prejudice in Tenda dos milagres embodies cultural identity and religious identity of the Brazilian people.
