“Homem, poeta, cérebro, coração”: Lindolfo Gomes e o pensamento intelectual e preservacionista em Juiz de Fora

Abstract

This thesis aims to analyze the emergence of preservationist thinking in Juiz de Fora through the professor and intellectual Lindolfo Gomes and his attempt to overturn, through the then National Historical and Artistic Patrimony Service, the Old Farm or Juiz de Fora Farm, which would have belonged to the judge who would name the city of Minas Gerais and who would have inaugurated the discussions on preservation in it. Through intellectual biography, we will make an apparatus about Lindolfo's trajectory, trying to understand with whom he related and how these relationships helped his production, making him an intellectual of his time and also a social agent of the city he lived. Likewise, we will make an apparatus of what it was like the Juiz de Fora that Lindolfo lived and mainly, as he realized the intellectual environment that the city was inserted in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century, making them win nicknames as "Athens Mineira "And" poets' nest ". Understanding the environment and personal relationships of Lindolfo will help us to understand the reasons that made him try to preserve Fazenda Velha by getting in direct contact with Rodrigo Melo Franco de Andrade and introducing the subject "preservation" in Juiz de Fora at the same time as the their discussions began to gain momentum on the national scene (late 1930s and early 1940s).
